Cancellation Policy
Meta description: The Marlin Hunter's cancellation and rescheduling terms for Cabo San Lucas fishing charters and villa stays — what's confirmed, and what to ask before you pay.Cancellation and rescheduling terms differ between fishing charters and villa stays. Confirm the written terms that apply to your specific reservation before making payment.
What happens if weather affects my fishing charter?
Safety determines whether a charter can depart. If the Port Authority closes the marina, or the captain determines conditions are unsafe, The Marlin Hunter will reschedule the trip or issue a credit.
Weather decisions are separate from a personal decision to cancel — a weather-related credit doesn't automatically apply to a voluntary cancellation for personal, travel, or scheduling reasons. If weather affects a charter, The Marlin Hunter confirms the details for that specific reservation, including whether a credit is transferable, how long it stays valid, and whether a cash refund is available instead of a credit.
What if I need to cancel for my own reasons?
Guest cancellations made less than 7 days before the charter forfeit the deposit. A 25% deposit is required to hold a charter date in the first place, so this is the amount at stake in a late cancellation.
What's included in a standard booking, and how does that affect a cancellation?
A standard charter booking includes the boat and crew only. Fishing licenses ($25 USD per person, per day — children under 12 don't need one), bait ($4 USD each), and food and drinks are separate unless arranged in advance. If a reservation is cancelled or moved, these additional arrangements may need to be handled separately from the boat booking itself.
What about the Decimal Dust all-inclusive charter?
The Decimal Dust 67' luxury charter includes the boat, crew, gear, license, bait, food, and drinks as one package. If cancelling or rescheduling a Decimal Dust charter, confirm with The Marlin Hunter how any prepaid inclusions will be handled — this is settled per reservation rather than by a fixed rule.
What if my boat becomes unavailable?
If the boat originally selected becomes unavailable, The Marlin Hunter arranges a boat of the same size or larger. Confirm the specific options and terms that apply if a substitution is needed for a particular reservation.
What's the cancellation policy for villa stays?
The Marlin Hunter's villas — Casa Paloma, Villa Black Marlin, and Villa Blue Marlin — don't currently have a published universal cancellation window, deposit requirement, refund schedule, rescheduling rule, or no-show policy. Villa pricing and availability can be seasonal, so ask The Marlin Hunter to confirm the written terms for the specific property and dates before paying a deposit. The 25% deposit rule above is specific to fishing charters — it doesn't automatically apply to villa bookings.
Optional add-ons — airport transportation, grocery stops, pre-stocking, private chefs, in-villa massages, and itinerary planning — may carry their own separate terms. Fishing-charter weather rules don't apply to a villa booking.
What if I'm running late, or can't make it at all?
The Marlin Hunter doesn't currently publish a late-arrival grace period, a shortened-trip policy, a waiting-time rule, or a no-show fee, for either charters or villas. If a late arrival or an inability to travel is likely, contact The Marlin Hunter as soon as possible — a late arrival can affect the time available on the water, and any adjustment or refund is confirmed based on the specific reservation.
How do I actually confirm my terms or request a change?
